A. This site is best navigated with a recent version of Internet
Explorer, Firefox or Safari. If you are using a browser other than
these, you may have difficulties.
B. Make sure you have your script registration type and number
on hand. This is the number you get when you registered your
script with the Copyright Office, Writers
Guild, Writesafe or other type of recognized intellectual property
recording agency. An attorney or mailing the script to yourself
is not adequate protection. DO NOT place your scripts on this site
unless they have been properly registered.
C. Make sure you have a logline/pitch and synopsis already written
for the work you plan to place. See that it is saved in your
computer and that you have already checked the grammar and spelling.
The logline may be a maximum of 60 words, preferably fewer, and
the synopsis should be 450 words or fewer (about 1 page long).
Update Contact Info
1. Click on the My Profile tab.
2. Click on 'Update Contact info/Change Password.'
3. Make sure all of the information you would like available is
entered and then select 'Submit this Information.'
**Note: If, when trying to revise your contact info, your contact
info is blank or the changes don't take, your account may be corrupted.
Please stop and email us before
you do anything further.
Purchase a Script/Book Placement
** If your script/book placement is already paid for, skip this
step and go on to the 'Place a Script/Book' section, below.
1. Click on the 'Purchase' tab.
2. Enter in the quantity of each service you would like to purchase
on the form.
3. Select how you would like to pay (you may have to click the
radio button twice).
a. If you are paying by credit card, make sure all the cardholder's
information shown is correct. Click the 'Click here for secure
payment page' button. Enter in your credit card number and expiration
date on the next page that comes up. You will also be asked to
type in a security code.
b. If you are paying by check or you would like to fax in your
credit card number, click the 'Pay by Check/Fax' radio button,
print and fill out the form. We will process your payment and
credit your account for the services you have paid for. You will
not be able to receive these services until we have processed
your payment.
c. If you are using money you have on account to extend your
script, please select the script you'd like to extend and then
click 'Continue.'
Place a Script/Book
1. Go to the 'My InkTip' page (tab is on the top left) and click
on the link 'List a New Title.'
2. At this point, it's just a matter of filling in the information
asked for. Make sure to fill out all required fields. Here are a
few things to keep in mind:
a. Media Type: Once you get to the 2nd page, you will
need to choose whether your script is a feature, teleplay or book.
You will only be able to choose one. Your selection needs
to be made for exactly what you have written. If you have written
a feature script, then select feature. If you have written a MOW
(Movie of the Week), then select teleplay and MOW. Put a note
below in your logline and synopsis if your work is easily adaptable
to another media type.
b. Sub-genres: Select at least 4 sub-genres. Select as
many as possible that apply to your script, but do not select
elements your script does not have! This really annoys industry
professionals searching for scripts on the site.
c. Author's Name: You don't need to place the author's
name or the title of the script at the beginning of your logline
or synopsis. You'll see why when you finish putting up your placement
and see how it looks.
d. Resume: Do not enter in your contact info in your resume,
it will automatically show up there. Not all writers have experience
in the field of writing, so you may choose to not list anything.
Otherwise, if you have any writing experience, education, or have
won any contests or festivals, list them here.
e. Placing Script: Uploading your full script and/or treatment
is not required. If you don't want to place either of these
files, just click the 'Save Changes' button to place your listing
on the site. However, if you do want to place your script and/or
treatment, make sure the files are saved as .rtf, .txt or .pdf.
The site will not allow you to place any other kinds of files.
See the section below, 'Converting your Script/Treatment to a
Compatible Document' for instructions on conversion. Do not have
any symbols in the file name and don't try to put up pictures
or graphics; it will mess up your placement.
f. Select the button 'Browse' for either the treatment or the
script (which ever you are planning to post). That will open a
window on your computer for you to browse your hard drive for
your script file. Click on your script file. It will automatically
load into the text box next to the 'Browse' button. Then select
'Save Changes' at the bottom of the page.
3. Once you have clicked the button to place your title on the
site you will be taken to your 'Titles Listed' page. This is how
the industry professionals will see your work. Most of the buttons
here are functional so you can see what the IPs can do.
4. There are a few more buttons and information of interest on this
page:
a. Expires - This is when your work will
be expiring from the site. Please make sure and extend your listing
before this date, as it will be deleted from the site if you don't.
We don't keep information on your script once it is deleted. Click
on the date or the 'Purchase' tab at the top of the page to get
to the purchase page where you can extend your listing.
b. Eligible for update on - This is a very
valuable feature we have on our site. When listings are displayed
for IP's they are sorted by date; newest listings are shown first.
Because of this, older listings don't get as much exposure. We
have this feature to allow you to update your placement on the
site every 6 weeks and have it brought back to the top of the
list as a new listing. On or after this date, click on the 'Modify
Listing' button. On 'Step 1 - Script Registration Info,' click
the button 'Save/Continue.' You have now moved your logline back
to the top of the list. Click here for
more info.
c. Modify Listing - This allows you to modify anything
in your listing: logline, synopsis, genre, etc., at any time.
You are also able to take off/replace a current script or treatment
upload.
d. List in Magazine - Click this button to place
that particular logline in our printed magazine. It will take
you to the payment page if you have not yet paid for it.
5. Once you have completed posting your listing, it will be Pending
Review from InkTip. We always check to make sure there are no typos,
grammatical errors, etc., in the placement before posting it on
our site. We do not judge the content of the script itself, but
we do need to make sure you are put in as good a light as possible,
as somtimes you only get one chance to make that first impression.
a. You will either receive an automated email saying your listing
has been posted or you will receive an email asking you to do
some clean up before it can be posted. Do keep in mind, we are
not editors and cannot critique or edit your work. You will receive
the email within 24 hours, excepting weekends and holidays.
b. Your work's time on the site starts when your work has been
made available to industry professionals on the site, not while
it is pending review.
Modifying your Listing
To modify any part of your placement at any time, log in to the site
and you can either click on the title of the script on the left side
of your 'My InkTip' page, or you can go to the 'Titles Listed' tab
and click the 'Modify Listing' button. Be sure to click the 'Save
/ Continue' button at the bottom of each page.
If you would like to swap out your current listing on the site with
a different script for which you would like exposure, please click
the REPLACE LISTING button under the TITLES LISTED tab.
Converting your Script/Book to a Compatible
Document
**Before you convert your work there are 3 very important things
to remember. One, do not make your file name (what the file
of your script is called on your computer) any longer than 17 letters.
Two, do notput any symbols (apostrophes, commas, pound
signs, asterisks, ampersands, etc.) in your file name. Three,
be sure your file is no larger than 300KB (not MB). Any of these will
keep your file from uploading onto the site. We also recommend you
save without any spaces in the file name.
We do suggest you have a cover page on your script. It should include
at least the title of your script and your name.
1. To convert to .rtf or .txt:
a. Open your script/treatment document.
b. Click 'File' and then 'Save As' or 'Export.'
c. In the 'Save As Type' (or similar) box, select either 'Rich
Text' or 'Plain Text'.
d. Click 'Ok' or 'Save.'
2. To covert to .pdf
a. If you have not paid for the Adobe Acrobat program or only
have Adobe Reader, you will have to do this via their site. http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html.
You will need to register for an account and then will be able
to send them your file. They will send you back the converted
file.
b. Your .pdf file should be no larger than 300KB (not MB). If
your file is too large, it will not save.
3. Once your work has been converted, open the new file on your
computer to make sure it looks ok. Sometimes when converting to
.rtf or .txt from screenwriting software the formatting is affected.
Fix it manually if it is not too bad. If the formatting has been
affected substantially, try another format.
Don't worry too much about the page numbers or line spacing differences.
Our producers know that the scripts on the site have been reformatted.
They will request a hard copy of the script if they would like to
read it, as few producers are going to print a script off of the
site or read it on the computer. If you are worried about the formatting,
retype the first 10-20 pages of your script, save it as .rtf, and
post that.
4. If you cannot follow these directions or the conversion just
isn't working, contact the tech support of the program you are using.
They should be able to help you.
Add/Edit Representation Info
1. My Profile Settings tab.
2. Click 'Add/Edit Reps.'
3. Here you will find options to add, revise or delete a representative.
Below that you will find each of your scripts listed. Click on the
name of the script to add or delete a representative from that particular
script. If you representative reps all of your scripts on the site
you must add that representative to each of your scripts individually.
Setting your Internet Options
Our site runs best on a recent version of Internet Explorer, Firefox
or Safari.
If you are using AOL, it is easier to go online with AOL, then minimize
it and select Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari. AOL is notorious
for bumping people off the Internet.
Every time you look at a page on the Internet, it is downloaded in
your computer and is stored in what is called a 'cache' (a place for
storing things). If you don't clean out these files now and then,
it takes up a lot of space and could slow things down. Also, as with
our site, if a page is changed, it won't show up as your computer
gives you the old page. Or, let's say you go in and replace a script
with a revised one. You do it and then go to view it and see the old
one. That is because you have not selected the setting of 'new page
every time' in your Internet settings.
1. For Internet Explorer:
a. Select 'tools' and then 'internet options.'
b. Under 'temporary internet files' select 'delete files.'
c. Next to that select 'settings' and then 'every visit to the page.'
Click 'ok.'
d. You should be back at the original box. Select 'clear history.'
e. Select 'ok.'
Security
We recommend that you change your password every 3 to 6 months. You
can do this by clicking on the 'My Profile' tab. Click on 'Change
My Password.'
Do not set your browser security on 'high' or to 'accept no cookies'
or you will have trouble interacting properly with our site pages.
'Cookies' tell our site which member's website file to pull data from
or put data into. See 'Setting your Internet Options' above for more
information on cookies.
We strongly recommend that you install a high quality virus protection
program on your computer since the Internet is the most common area
of computer attacks. Please virus-scan your documents just before
sending them to our site so that industry pros aren't given viruses
unintentionally. No matter what product you have, you should update
it frequently. Additionally, you want your own files protected.
