The mission of the ‘Black Lives Matter Screenwriting Competition’ is to bridge the gap between emerging black screenwriters and producers who want to make films that represent the black experience. By shining a light on the culture and historical perspective that has shaped – and continues to shape – the lives of the black population in both the United States and abroad, we hope that the scripts and films generated will bring about a greater representation of black talent and a greater assimilation of black stories into the film industry.
We are a team of artists, writers, directors, and producers who are dedicated to the success of the next generation of filmmakers and screenwriters from around the world. We look for storytellers who are passionate about creating narratives about our communities in the U.S. and abroad – from inner city Atlanta, LA, New York, Oakland, Detroit, Chicago, and Milwaukee to Wall Street and the NBA; and from Africa, Brazil, and the Caribbean to the streets of London.
Because we believe that these stories are part of the incredible tapestry of our world culture, we welcome submissions from artists from around the world of any sex, sexual orientation, or ethnicity, white, black, Latin, Asian, and everything in between in order to create diversity in the film industry. We are passionate about discovering promising artists and we love all kinds of stories from studio blockbusters to art house fare; from silly comedies to gritty dramas. No two paths are the same and no two stories are alike. As long as your script is about the black community or issues affecting the black community, where ever that black community might be, be it in the U.S., Africa, or outer space. We just want to see more stories about our communities.
We specifically hope that our ‘Black Lives Matter Screenwriting Competition’ will inspire more talented black authors to submit their work so that we will have the opportunity to introduce more films about the black experience to the industry. Our goal is to inspire more black authors to write, to see more black stories to go into production, and to connect production companies that tell our stories to the exceptionally talented storytellers who are writing them. We want to inspire generations of filmmakers to tell great stories that will inspire future generations to tell great stories.

"One of the UK's top film festivals to know about" - London METRO
"A top ten event" - Het Parool
"Culture Calendar" - VOGUE Nederland
"Amsterdam hosts a great cinema event" - iAmsterdam

Inspired by the idea of a cultural revival, we recognize that the digital revolution creates the conditions for a New Renaissance, opening a door for a different set of stories to be told.

OUR MISSION

Film is a unique medium, and the New Renaissance Film Festival’s mission is to support and champion the best upcoming filmmakers and screenwriters in this new era, to fulfill their dream in telling their stories.

We achieve this by:

(1) actively finding new gems and discovering excellent stories that move us, challenge us and above all inspire us;
(2) promoting talented filmmakers and screenwriters on our social media, with initiatives such as Film of the Week, interviews, and panel discussions during our festivals in London and Amsterdam;
(3) being open to a diversity of different voices and points of view;
(4) providing screenwriters, directors and producers with top industry judges, professional masterclasses and expert script analysis and development to enable them to achieve success;
(5) hosting award-winning films on our pay-per-view distribution platform which benefits the filmmakers; and
(6) attracting sponsors who are passionate about indie film and can help us to nurture the artists we showcase.
ONE OF THE TOP UK FILM FESTIVALS TO KNOW ABOUT!

NRFF was featured recently in the London METRO’s list of TOP UK FILM FESTIVALS, alongside Raindance and Aesthetica. Our top industry judges from the UK and USA enable us to keep standards consistently high.

As of September 2016, NRFF is ranked in the top 20 best reviewed film festivals on FilmFreeway. This platform serves more than 5,000 film festivals around the world. What makes this special is that the ranking (currently #14) is determined by reviews from the filmmakers and screenwriters who have participated in our festival.

A FESTIVAL FOR INSPIRING ARTISTS, STORIES AND STORYTELLERS

This three-day festival is organized by JAN HENDRIK VERSTRATEN and MASSIMO BARBATO who are themselves filmmakers and writers. They believe at the heart of every great film is a great story, one that will inspire an audience and hopefully help to shape culture in a positive way.

NRFF London has several categories for UK and International filmmakers and screenwriters, but very close to our hearts is the YOUNG TALENT AWARD. This is a special award for screenwriting and for short films that will be presented to young talent between the ages of 18-24.

We feel it is important to give those starting out in film a chance to discover their own unique voice and vision, as an artist, and to communicate with a larger audience.

NRFF LONDON 2017

2018 will be our third year in London, a city known for its diversity and innovation in the creative arts. We will screen around 120 narrative shorts, documentaries, animations and music videos over the course of the festival, finishing with an AWARDS CEREMONY.
Running alongside the festival will be a SCREENWRITING COMPETITION and a series of MASTERCLASSES by film industry experts, a filmmaker's PANEL DISCUSSION, Filmmaker Q&A's, and other networking opportunities.

Now, in it's 18th year, Shriekfest L.A takes place at the legendary Raleigh Studios, which is the largest independent studio operator in the country. The second Shriekfest Orlando takes place at the famous Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center, which was originally founded in 1923! THE LATINO SCREENWRITING COMPETITION
Designed to inspire and empower emerging Latino writers and producers, and any storyteller looking to tell great stories about our varied communities.

We are a team of writers, directors, producers, and executives who are passionate about cinema and dedicated to the success of the next generation of talented Latino filmmakers from all over North and South America. We want to support storytellers who are already passionate about generating narrative content about our communities in the United States and abroad - from inner city Los Angeles, New York, and Miami to the tip of Argentina to Chile, Bolivia, and Brazil, the Caribbean, Central America, and Latinos around the world.

We value all of our stories from tales about revolution in El Salvador to the U.S. Military, from the Pope to the Governors Mansions in three states, to the favelas of Sao Paulo and the beaches of Rio. We want to support you in telling all of your stories. We want to create a platform for the stories that have shaped – and continue to shape – our lives and the communities we live in. We hope that the scripts and films generated will increase the number of Latinos working in the film industry and geometrically increase the number of stories told about our culture in both Hollywood and abroad.
