Cinequest was voted Best Film Festival by USA Today Readers. Set in the home of the world’s most influential media technology companies (Netflix, YouTube, Indiegogo, Apple, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.), Cinequest showcases premier films, renowned and emerging artists, and breakthrough technology—empowering global connectivity between creators, innovators and audiences. Cinequest presents a dynamic 13-day festival with 500+ screenings and events with over 700 artists, innovators, and professionals representing 50 countries. Over 100,000 attend the festival annually. Cinequest Film & VR Festival occurs March 3 – 15, 2020 in San Jose & Redwood City, California.

"I think the most important thing about Cinequest is it's definitely the first time I've ever come to a festival where my immediate reaction is, 'What do I have to do to be invited back?' and that's not normally my reaction. It's a perfect film festival in a glorious place."— Neil Gaiman, Maverick Spirit Award Winner

Amidst the energy and excitement of the festival, the Cinequest Screenwriting Competition empowers creative and innovative writers with the opportunity to interact with producers and industry professionals from around the world. Finalists will be honored during the Cinequest Writers Celebration, a day filled with a dynamic collection of Writer Meet Producer events, Business of Writing forums, Pitch Training, VIP Writers Lunch, and an awards ceremony announcing the winners of the competition.

ADDITIONAL TESTIMONIALS

"I've been submitting to Cinequest since 2013. The Cinequest judges' feedback and scorecards have always been top notch. I had a fantastic experience attending this year. The producers and staff do an amazing job. It's incredible...I'm over the moon to be working with Frank Grillo, Joe Carnahan, Myles Nestel and Lisa Wilson at The Solution, and with the crew at CAA. — Jeremy Rush, Feature Winner, WHEELMAN (Sold to Netflix in May 2016)"

"My cell was ringing with option interest before I even left San Jose. The Cinequest win helped me land representation in L.A., which resulted in attaching a seasoned producer who loves the script. I'm now being read by some of the most well-known production companies and all the major studios in Hollywood." — Bill Schreiber, SWITCHBACK

“Winning the Cinequest feature screenwriting competition gave me a chance to connect with other writers and filmmakers, and provided me with amazing opportunities to open some doors. A top-notch competition!” — Stacie Shellner, SAINT CHLOE

"Cinequest offers the creme' de la creme' of screenplay competitions! All of the events were professionally run, and as a Screenwriting Finalist, I encountered wonderful networking situations, well thought out educational opportunities, and a warm embrace into this vibrant community." — Ashia Chacko, BLACK BOX

"I saw the word "maverick" and took a chance on a lark that maybe this was a venue that could help foster my own vision. I graduated from the USC Graduate Screenwriting program...whatever happens in my career from this point on, I will consider [Cinequest] as one of the key factors in my development as a writer." — George Chumo II, THE ICONOCLAST and THE BRIDGE

“I can honestly say that Cinequest is one of the most writer-friendly film festivals I've ever been to. It was such a pleasure to meet everyone and, most of all, hear all of the stories. Here's hoping we all get a green light someday!” — Donna Laemmlen, SHEILA THE GILA MONSTER

"Everyone at Cinequest was great and I enjoyed the networking opportunities they provided. My screenplay is moving forward and we are seeking out investors to co-produce." — David Rich, THROUGH MARIA'S EYES

All submissions receive three lines of consolidated reader feedback upon request.

Winners Notified:
Oct 31, 2019
Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival is calling for Screenplay Entries for its 23rd annual competition. The Festival is accepting screenplays in all genres. Screenplays must have been written after 2017.

Screenplays entered into the competition will be adjudicated by a distinguished panel of industry professionals, educators, peers and film fans. The Grand Prize winner will become a central focus during ScriptBiz™ the screenplay pitch forum held during the Festival. The Grand Prize winner will also receive prizes valued at over $10,000. This includes travel, up to four nights accommodations, Final Draft software and screenplay promotions. Since the contest winners are announced following the main Festival, the Grand Prize winner’s work will be a focal point for RIIFF 2019 with the official trophy presented at the Festival's Opening Night Celebration.

Screenplays will be judged on creativity, innovation, vision, originality and the use of language. The key element is that of communication and how it complements and is transformed by the language of film.

The deadline for 2018 screenplay submissions is July 15, 2018. Very Important: Winners will be announced by October 9, 2018 (over Columbus Day Weekend).

Note, as this is important: The Screenplay Competition follows the main Festival since it allows us time to read the entries carefully and discuss the reviews with our adjudicators. As this competition is designed, the grand prize screenplay then becomes a focal point for the next Festival the following August.

There are three areas in which you can submit:

• FULL-LENGTH SCREENPLAY COMPETITION
Full-length screenplay competition. Scripts not to exceed 130 double-spaced pages. Feature scripts are accepted from any genre, from any lifestyle orientation and from within and/or outside the US. Please contact us directly if you have questions, or your screenplay is longer.

• TELEPLAY/SHORT SCREENPLAY COMPETITION
Teleplay/Short screenplay competition. Scripts not to exceed 40 double-spaced pages for half hour programs/70 pages for a one hour teleplay. Screenplays accepted from any genre, from any lifestyle orientation and from within and/or outside the US.

• SPOTLIGHT ON RHODE ISLAND
(Full-length and short screenplay)
For screenwriters, Rhode Island’s diverse landscape can be a character all unto itself. And a state with so much character makes for great stories. Flickers' Rhode Island International Film Festival (RIIFF) is now accepting entries for its 2018 Spotlight on Rhode Island Screenplay Competition. RIIFF invites talented screenwriters from around the world to submit their original screenplays whose characters and locations anchor the story in Rhode Island. Entries can be A. feature film (max. 130 pages), B. movie of the week (max. 100 pages), or C. television pilot (max. 40 pages for a half hour program/70 pages for a one-hour teleplay), and must be in standard industry formats. Scripts may be in any genre, present day or historic period. Adaptations of novels/books are not acceptable unless submitted by the author. Writers must also supply a log line and short synopsis. Finalist scripts will be read and judged by industry professionals.

PLEASE NOTE:
(IMPORTANT: The actual Notification Date is Columbus Day Weekend in October 2019, not as cited in WAB as August 5th. WAB's system does not allow us to list the date beyond the start of the August film festival. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to send an e-mail to: georget@film-festival.org.) Once you've entered our competition, you will receive monthly emails. Please be sure to not "spam" these eblasts as we will not be able to re-entered that email into our communication system.

Every script receives a letter of analysis from an industry professional WITHIN TWO WEEKS OF SUBMISSION and finalists receive a one-on-one consultation with a feature film producer as well as heaps of other rewards. The GRAND JURY PRIZE winner receives $9500 in cash & prizes, including a PROOF OF CONCEPT TRAILER PRODUCED BY BARNSTORM MEDIA.

At Barnstorm, we pride ourselves on helping our finalists and participants long after the festival is complete. We continue to work with and advise our participants on how to get their script made for as long as it takes. Barnstorm's ultimate goal is the preservation of independent film through the nurturing of independent voices.

FINALIST PACKAGE
Three finalists from each category will be able to pitch their projects directly to executives from Discovery Studios, Sony Pictures Entertainment Television, New Line Cinema, Warner Brothers, Echo Lake Entertainment, Relativity Television, CBS, WEtv, Authentic Entertainment, Forman Productions, Infinity Media Inc., Little Studio Films, and Leftfield Pictures, all via iPitch.

Every finalist also receives a one-on-one consultation with a producer from Barnstorm Media who can advise you on how to get your film or television show made, or, better yet, how to make it yourself.

One finalist from each category will receive an InkTip prize package. Each prize package includes an InkTip script listing and an InkTip magazine listing that will promote your script to InkTip's large network of producers and reps.

GRAND JURY PRIZE
One script, regardless of category, will receive the Grand Jury Prize package. The package includes all prizes offered to finalists, as well as $250, a three month listing on The Blacklist and, the kicker, BARNSTORM MEDIA WILL PRODUCE A PROOF OF CONCEPT TRAILER FOR YOUR SCRIPT.
