Queer Kampala International Film Festival (QKIFF), is the first and only LGBTQ Film Festival in Uganda and the only gay film festival organized in a country where homosexuality is illegal. QUEERKIFF offers a powerful platform to promote and progress LGBTIQ rights through film advocacy in homophobic Uganda.

For the first time in homophobic Uganda, an International film festival celebrating and reinforcing the right to be LGBTQI was held. Against all odds, the creative Queer KIFF team laid strategies to beat the stern security and anti homo communities. The inaugural Queer Kampala International Film Festival was held 9th – 11th, December 2016 at different venues in the country’s capital Kampala.

Measures included security screening of attendees, keeping the venues secret and mobile daily. The attendants had to go to a different venue in the morning and afternoon. Venues were announced within hours to the event. Encouragingly, the LGBTIQ community, supporters and sympathizers hung in there and religiously followed us to the different venues attracting a turn up of more than 800 visitors with in a space of three days.
We are excited to announce the second edition scheduled for the 8th – 10th, December 2017. We are already accepting film submissions and be sure it will happen as our think tank is laying strategies to mitigate associated risks.

Together, we can end victimization of the LGBTQI community using social justice film-making, a tested and proven effective tool in changing hearts, minds, and laws!!

Project Goal

-Pushing for Legal Reforms through expanding the network of LGBTIQ advocates, supporters and activists who can lobby the relevant authorities and stakeholders particularly politicians who are attracted by numbers.

-Preventing Discrimination of the LGBTIQ Community through creating awareness to the general populace about the LGBTIQ Community. This is done with an aim of changing perceptions and attitudes of the general populace thus reducing stigma and discrimination against the LGBTIQ community.

-Promoting Production of Quality LGBTIQ Films by providing spaces where their films can be exhibited as well as recognizing and awarding the brave film makers who dare to tell the suppressed LGBTIQ stories.

To learn about Queerkiff read this illuminating interview about setting up a queer film festival in a country where homosexuality is illegal. The inaugural Queer Kampala International Film Festival came to Uganda last December. (via VICE News) https://news.vice.com/story/a-queer-film-festival-comes-to-uganda-where-homosexuality-is-illegal

Welcome to Sick ’n’ Wrong, the only film festival that peels back the decaying flesh of conventional cinema, cracks open the bones underneath, digs down through the fat and gristle, and rips out the throbbing black heart of film art so everyone can bask in its terrible beauty.

At Sick ’n’ Wrong, we’re not (just) about unspeakable gore, and we’re not (only) into shockingly tasteless humor—we welcome the weird, the uncategorizable, the aggressively bizarre. If you’re an indie filmmaker, and your work makes the traditional festivals cringe, Sick ’n’ Wrong is probably your true home.

Sick ’n’ Wrong accepts films of all genres and form: horror, black comedy, animation, documentary—anything that makes us squirm! Every selected film screens at the festival, and winning filmmakers will receive custom 3-D printed “Sickies” in the following categories:

Best Movie
Best Story
Best Performance
Best Music
Best Special Effects
Funniest
Scariest

Plus two more in these Sick 'n' Wrong–specific categories:

Austin Film Festival is accepting submissions for the 2017 Film Competition and the Late Deadline is June 30. Widely known as the "Writers Festival” since its inception in 1993 and ranked by MovieMaker Magazine as one of the 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee, AFF searches for new, gifted storytellers and provides them a platform for further success. The Narrative, Animated, and Documentary Short categories are Oscar®-qualifying, and selected filmmakers of every category receive access to AFF’s world-renowned Screenwriters Conference to learn, network, and get inspired to start their next project. This year's Austin Film Festival & Conference takes place October 26 - November 2, 2017.

All awards will be presented to the Writer of the winning films, with the exception of the Documentary awards, which will be presented to the Director. The Jury Awards will be presented on Saturday, October 28, 2017, during the Austin Film Festival Awards Luncheon. Awards are based on overall merit of the entries. Jury members reserve the right not to grant an award.

AUDIENCE AWARD - All films screening are also eligible for an Audience Award in their respected categories. Award winners are announced within one week following the Festival. The Audience Award is based solely on audience voting at the film’s screening(s).
