The idea to stage a major international children’s film festival was originally conceived by Nick Place at Media Giants way back in 2004. Nick's passion for giving kids a chance to have a film festival all their own led to Little Big Shots.

Over a decade later, Little Big Shots has now become its own not-for-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the media literacy of young people, fostering children's creativity and showcasing the very best in filmmaking for, by and about kids.

In 2017, entering its 13th year, the festival now stands as Australia’s only major stand-alone kids’ film festival - a niche Australian event, that tours all major cities in the country from June ever year. With its focus on diverse short films collected from all over the world as well as a commitment to showing the best child-made films from Australia plus plenty of competitions and opportunities for involvement, Little Big Shots is one of the year’s most exciting experiences for kids.

Welcome to the inaugural New Orleans Edge film festival event (as a part of the Critical Edge Film & Art Festival Network), directed/hosted by Tulane student/local artist Natalie Phillips. Our mission is to bridge the gap between students interested in the cinematic arts and skilled independent and/or international filmmakers; we welcome submissions of any kind and plan to host both short film events during an interactive pre-screening season and a larger annual festival.

We're proud to announce the the Nola Edge Film & Live Art Festival will incorporate CEFF's first ever performance art competition/submission category. In addition to photographs, visual art, and films, you can simply submit a video of a musical or theatrical performance (maximum 15 minutes in length), and compete for a spot performing the piece at our annual event! We're excited to see what New Orleans performers and artists have to offer our festival.

Critical Edge student-run film & art microfestivals feature a season of small film screenings where we play many of our short film selections alongside local/student filmmakers, followed by an annual Film Festival. A typical early screening event lasts an hour, and takes place at a local cafe, art gallery/studio space, or outdoors (depending on the venue). Our annual event will take place at multiple venues, run longer, and screen feature and short films - the annual event showcases the films selected as winners of their submission category (among other selections).

By submitting to the Critical Edge Film Festival, you are competing for the opportunity to gain publicity in a number of ways:
- Entering an ongoing competition for display on our website and various social media pages as selections in our Photography category (excluding film submissions except by our prior e-mailed request)
- Gaining Publicity during various pre-screening events where audiences participate in the critiquing of selected short film submissions, and ultimately assist in the voting process as to whether or not they will be selected for the annual festival. The 2018 edition of the Utah Film Festival and Awards is taking MORE films than ever before and screening them more often throughout the week to get more eyeballs on YOUR film.

The 6 day festival is juried by reporters, distribution companies, literary agents, production companies and even Oscar winners such as Gerald Molen (Schindler's list, Rain Man, Tootsie). More than 300 films from the last two seasons picked up distribution because their film or script was seen by one of our jury members.

The screenplay competition works in partnerships with ScriptFest/The Great American Pitchfest which has been connecting screenwriters with producers and literary agents for 15 years. Winners for Best Screenplay will get a pass to ScriptFest/The Great American Pitchfest 2018 worth over $300.

The awards ceremony is a special, two-hour event which will take place at the Covey Center for the Arts in Provo, Utah. Submissions for the festival are at an all time high and will remain open until January 31, 2018.
