Brooks Barnes has signed for management representation with manager Sheri Fults of Elysian Entertainment after his script 'Blackhat' was discovered on WSN. Elysian plans to develop Brooks as an action-thriller writer and will take out his debut screenplay in the first quarter.

Brian Young optioned his script 'Loved to Death: The Robert Latimer Story' to Bill Sherwood of Concord Entertainment. This is Bill's first foray into producing features, however he has produced several shorts. Vincent Leone of Conception Entertainment has optioned the script 'Amends' by Michelle Duarte. Vincent recently produced 'The Billabong Odyssey', a surfing documentary in search of the 100 foot wave. Prior to this he was hired by Oscar-Winning director Ron Howard and Oscar-Winning producer Brian Grazer, for whom he worked on the films 'EdTV' and 'The Grinch Who Stole Christmas'.

The news story of Rey Wasserman's optioning her script 'Kicks' to Diane Ladd of Exxcell Entertainment was a front page article in Focus In. As an entertainment reporter, Rey went undercover to explore opportunities on the Internet for screenwriters. Ours was one of the sites she explored. Her script was discovered on our site by manager/producer Bill Bannon who brought it to Diane Ladd. Diane Ladd is a multi-award winning actor/director including three Academy Award nominations. The writing team of Anna Gilson and Michael Steven Gregory have optioned their romantic comedy 'Wish' to Pendle View LLC. The deal marks the second script found on our website. Gregory's 'Long Came Charlie' was picked up by actor Dustin Hoffman's Punch Productions (Tootsie, Mad City, Wag the Dog, The Devil's Arithmetic, Walk on the Moon) in October.

Established in October 2001, Pendle View is headed by former Blue Rider Pictures' Director of Development & Production Craig Nicholls. Alexia Melocchi of Little Studio Films Inc found Sheri Keasler's script, 'Russianbride.com' on our site and will be co-producing it with North by Northwest (producers of 'The Basket' starring Peter Coyote and released by MGM). North by Northwest will also distribute foreign. Jim Becket (director of Southern Cross with Esai Morales) is on board to direct it. Production is slated for spring/summer 2003. Little Studio Films Inc is one of the entities on the 'Alexander The Great'
project by best selling Author Valerio Manfredi, which will shoot in 2003 with director Baz Luhrman. Additionally, Little Studio Films Inc has taken Keasler on as a client. The company currently represents several high profile directors, writers and producers.

Note From Jerrol: Hollywood uses the term or variations of 'low six against mid-six figures'. Every deal is different. Generally speaking, it means that the writer gets paid low six figures and may also receive installment payments as the writing progresses. Tamara has edited 8 feature films and recently co-directed 'Man of the Year' starring John Ritter (some of her credits appear on IMDB.com). Cornered was found on our site by Larry Provost of Centrix Media Corp who also operates www.indie-underground.com. Bruce has sold six scripts, optioned another six and has had four of them produced.

Linda Nelson of Nelson Madison Films has optioned the script 'Forewarned' by Michael O'Neill and Stephen Pratt. Financing is in negotiation, the script is ready and name talent are currently being approached to star in it. Filming is expected to begin some time next year. Linda really likes both Michael and Stephen and is hoping to work with them on other projects as well. Linda produced the concert film for NSYNC which showed at IMAX theatres. New York-based Workshop Productions, LLC has optioned the script, 'Messengers' by Charles Hall, Adam MacLean & Ryan Neill. Workshop productions is a new production company whose members have won numerous awards, including last year's Student Academy Award for 'Zen and the Art of Landscaping'. As production manager/line producer, their member credits include: Ed Harris' 'Pollock', Hal Hartley's 'No Such Thing' and David Mamet's 'The Spanish Prisoner', among others. The script is currently in pre-production and is being cast by Walken-Jaffe Casting (The Sopranos, Banger Sisters, etc.). The deal was negotiated by Michael Overn of Levinsohn, Bodine, Hurwitz and Weinstein, LLP and Charles Hall's representative, Geoff Brooks of The Characters Talent Agency, Ltd.

Chuck Simon of S Pictures optioned the script, The Business of Superheros by Chris Love. Chuck just Executive Produced for S Pictures, Inc., two films for Sci-Fi Channel. The first 'Terminal Invasion' aired last month and the second, 'Control Factor' is in post-production and is scheduled to air in January. Several months ago we announced that Greg Morgan of Coalmine Canary films hired Steve Atkin to write/co-write 'Spending the Night'. The script is finished and is now in pre-production. It is scheduled to begin filming in January of 2003 and Artisan Entertainment will be distributing it. Another of Greg's films, 'The Playaz Court' received broad video release this week and has enjoyed great reviews.

Gross-Weston Productions optioned the script 'Under a Blood Red Sun' from Malcolm Ishida. This is Malcolm's first option. Gross-Weston Productions has a 25 year track record having produced quite a few TV movies and received Emmy nominations for their movies 'A Place For Annie' with Sissy Spacek, and 'The Billionarie Boys Club' with Judd Nelson. They recently produced 'Little John' on CBS with Ving Rhames, Gloria Reuben and Patty Duke.

Kim Pederson signed a work-for-hire contract to write an action/drama script for Tim VandeSteeg of Vandy Productions. Tim produced and directed the feature film 'Mulligan' and has produced several specials for ABC, including 'The Making of The Music Man' which documents the TV production of the musical starring Matthew Broderick. Tim contacted Kim after reading her script 'The Field Trip' and, being impressed by the dialog, story and unexpected turns, hired her! This is Kim's first work-for-hire contract.

Mike Burns is writing a script in collaboration with Patti Walker of Walker Films on an idea of Patti's. Patti is the development exec for Clearwater Films who was searching for scripts. Patti was so impressed with Mike's writing that she is having Mike write something for her under her own production company's banner. Additionally, Patti is working with Mike on another of his scripts, The Kemper Resolution. Negotiations are currently in progress for talent, financing and distribution.

Mike Jansen of Praxis Media Group has hired Cindy Parrish to write a screenplay, 'American Rider,' for him. This is the second script Cindy has been hired to write this year. Her first one was 'River Rats', which begins shooting this week. Cindy co-wrote River Rats with Dan Hall of VMS who found Cindy through our network. Dan is also directing 'River Rats'. Mike and Dan will be co-directing 'American Rider', with Mike also being the producer. This will be Mike's feature debut as a director. Mike has directed three other shorts and makes a living by producing corporate videos and TV commercials.

Producer Robert Wachs (Another 48 Hours, Coming To America, Harlem Nights and others) has hired veteran writer Jim Geoghan to script a musical based on the life, times, and music of Oscar winning song writer and performer Paul Jabara. Paul's hit songs include Last Dance, It's Raining Men, Enough is Enough, The Main Event, etc. Among other credits, Jim was co-executive producer for Family Matters for 8 years and has a musical, 'UG', which is under option in New York.

Mario has held executive-level positions with several Independent Motion Picture/TV Production Companies, and has been involved in the producing, financing, International Co-Productions and developing of shows such as 'The Shepherd's Song,' 'Find Me Guilty,' and '90's Crime Alert - a reality series on The US Postal Inspectors, DEA and Border Patrol.' Mario recently secured the exclusive rights to 'The Next Avengers' (a line of Published Novels based on the old TV Series 'The Avengers') and from the same author, a line of Published Novels for a proposed TV Series, entitled 'Shannon Steele Mysteries.'

Multiple Film Advisory Board winners and Emmy nominees, Lee and Jena Levinson have picked up four scripts. They picked up Jennifer L. Baum's female driven thriller, 'Stolen'; Paul Freeman's original romantic comedy, 'Mismatch'; David Kreutzer's non-traditional Christmas comedy 'Santa Takes Manhattan,' and also Donna White's dramatic comedy, 'Turnaround'.

This is Paul's second deal from our network: one through the newsletter and the other through our website (mentioned in the last newsflash). This is Jennifer's first option and not only David's first option, but also his first script.

Van Spaulding of Great Falls Moving Pictures has recently optioned the script, The RED SEAL, by Miriam Queensen, a sexy and sophisticated thriller set in the Asian art world. The RED SEAL is to be further developed and packaged for production. Credits for Van include: NICKELS (director), 25 minute short film that premiered in the Berlin Film Festival and played at a quite a few other festivals worldwide. Van also produced the Los Angeles production of 'Isn't it Romantic' by Wendy Wasserstein and 'Normal Heart' starring Richard Dreyfus.

Akin Apot is based on a true story and is an adaptation of Art's novel of the same name. Akin Apot is to be further developed and packaged for production later this year. As announced on page 6 of the Hollywood Reporter (March 19-25), Signpost Films has acquired the pitch "Meet Jane Doe" from writing duo Chris Soth (Firestorm) and Collin Chang. This was for low six figures. There were a number of people who were instrumental in landing this deal. Brooklyn Weaver of Energy Entertainment was certainly one of them! Brooklyn found Chris Soth through our website.

Greg was so pleased with the work Randy was doing on the first script that he hired Randy to write another script. Coalmine Canary films has produced two movies, 'The Court' and '17 and Under'. Coalmine Canary Films is slated to shoot a new feature for Artisan this year.

Screenwriting duo Stacy Dymalski of Park City, Utah, and Zack Van Eyck of Murray, Utah, have optioned their original, feature-length script, "Jupiter Landing", to director David Winkler. Winkler most recently wrote and directed, "Finding Graceland", the Columbia Tri-Star film starring Harvey Keitel and Bridget Fonda.
